Avoid Disputes with iTradeFresh

Jul 2019

In June, Blue Book Services (BBS) published an article in which a Claims Analyst discussed the complexities of determining whether carriers kept products within an acceptable temperature range. While BBS has Transportation Guidelines that provide general parameters for the conditions for transporting perishables, there is significant room for error that can lead to these disputes.

The guidelines stipulate that only variances within “four or five degrees Fahrenheit of the agreed-upon” temperature are permissible; however, quick deviations from this range can also be permissible, as the temperature can change while loading and unloading other products. Although the guidelines are helpful in determining acceptable standards, some perishables may be more affected by temperature changes than others, like strawberries versus onions, as the article points out. With all of these variables, it’s easy to understand why many of these disputes can turn into lengthy and costly arbitrations.

Both BBS and the Analyst agree that settling disputes outside of a judge or arbitrator is the best route to take when dealing with minor disputes, but that all disputes should be avoided as much as possible. iTradeNetwork has a solution to avoid these disputes: iTradeFresh.

Not only does iTradeFresh help to ensure consistent produce quality by standardizing and guiding inspection processes, automating notifications, and providing clear issue insights, but it also has been integrated with leading temperature sensor manufacturers to allow companies to auto-fail loads that have been exposed to temperatures outside of pre-set, acceptable ranges. If BBS and Claims Analysts can agree that avoiding disputes is the best course of action, why not use the product that ensures accurate and consistent monitoring of transit conditions?
